You are not what happened to you.

Therapy for Trauma

Trauma creates change not chosen. Healing creates change that is.

Trauma is described as experiencing a traumatic event that can have a lasting emotional effect on a person’s sense of safety, self, and ability to regulate emotions and navigate relationships. Not all trauma survivors experience negative consequences, however, trauma itself can significantly impact a person’s ability to function in everyday life.

Trauma quite literally rewires our brain and its development – rather than being wired for connection, trauma rewires itself for protection. It creates a cascade of biological changes and stress responses within the body which are associated with many common mental health issues.  Maybe you find difficulty in connecting with others and cannot understand why those connections seems so terrifying. Perhaps you feel that you are always “on”, and the idea of being still or calm is terrifying or even just not an option you allow yourself. Maybe you are feeling excessive guilt and/or shame and thus, unworthy of good things, often leading to self-sabotage in a myriad of ways.

Do you feel isolated and/or out of control emotionally? Therapy can help identify and heal those wounds.

Therapy for trauma can help you…

  • Process and validate your experiences, while accepting and understanding the behaviors and emotions that stem from your trauma

  • Equip you with the confidence and skills you need to function in your daily life

  • Increase trust and connection within yourself and with others

  • Reduce the intensity of problematic beliefs, shame, and guilt

  • Redefine and increase your sense of worthiness and purpose in the world

Significant trauma often leaves the survivor, and their story, forever changed.
